I got it as a prize for winning NaNoWriMo a few years ago. Well, I think 50% off or something. The thought of a novel draft in Word with all that scrolling just gives me hives now
I write a lot like you do. Don't really plan too much out, just go with the flow and let it organically grow. I find that building an outline almost puts a box on the writing and stifles the direction it could go. However, with your experience with Scrivener, does it still feel like that, or do you think it's worth giving a shot? I'm definitely willing to try new methods.
That was one of the reasons I put off trying it for so long! I thought it would be really limiting. But I've found it really useful. If I don't know where something 'fits' yet I just create a new section and write there, then it's really easy to move around when I get to that stage. Definitely worth giving a go, if you're looking for a new tool
I’ve customized the templates for longer projects but mostly open new sheets or files and get to work. I like changing the icons for works I’m actively writing (thought bubble) or indicate newsletters sent (inbox). I have used the formal short story template when I submitted to a magazine and would really like to explore more.
So great!! Didn't know you could change the icons haha there does seem to be so many features, which is amazing. Also love that it just makes getting to work easier.
Yes, was going to suggest the same regarding the icons. The 'ticked/unticked' and 'to edit' icons are handy, plus coloured books to indicate material type. I even use the clock icon to say what pieces have been scheduled in Substack (I begin and store copies of Substack posts in Scrivener as backup - 'nothing lasts for ever'...)
I love Scrivener. Love it. I recommend it to everyone. I've used it for years, with or without drafting on a typewriter first.
It's so good! Why did I put off using it for so long hahahah

Alright I’ll give it a shot, thanks for the suggestion!
Best of luck! Let me know how you find it 😊
Helpful, Cameron. I've feared order may corral my loose thoughts. Maybe Scrivener is a hidden friend! Ty.
Definitely worth a try! I had the same fear and, so far, loving it
I love Scrivener and have been using it for almost 4 years. I write everything on it. It’s invaluable.
Amazing! Do you customise the templates at all? Love hearing how other writers use it :)
